Time lapse of the storm/suspected tornado coming through Salisbury earlier today... nothing too dramatic in this video, but if you watch the clouds, you can clearly see the winds shift a full 360 degrees as the cell went over (in about the last 20 seconds). The worst was about 1-2 miles south, but this video was facing west.

    Mate this is an amazing build! Real pro work and it looks and sounds amazing. Coincidentally I own a guitar made from reclaimed piano woods from my sister's old piano. She left it at my parents' place when she moved out, and my folks couldn't sell it or even give it away. So my old man took an axe to it (eek!!!). Around the same time I got chatting to a guy behind the counter of the cafe where I usually get my coffee. It worked out that he's a guitar player and a guitar builder (and lives 10 minutes drive from me). Couldn't believe my luck! A guitar build was inevitable. Now I own a most unique instrument and am glad that the piano got it's second lease of life Well done my friend. Keep going!

Big thanks to you and of course, my fiance' for commissioning the build and keeping it a secret for so long. The natural sound is big and more full than the videos translated. Simply great work.

    What scales did you use?

    • @AndrewTrice
      @AndrewTrice 10 місяців тому

      26.5" on the treble strings, 28" on the bass strings, with a parallel fret at the 10th. If I were to do it again, I probably would go 27-29" for slightly higher string tension, with a parallel closer to 4 or 5 so the angle at the 1st fret is a little less.

    Nice Build!!! How did you ground your strings?

    • @AndrewTrice
      @AndrewTrice Рік тому

      If i remember correctly, I went back and forth on this one whether or not i was going to ground the strings. Normally I don't ground these b/c I use piezo discs, but this one had a magnetic pickup too... hence the internal debate. I think I skipped it, but I had considered drilling a hole from under the tailpiece into the body to run a ground wire. It ended up not having any issues without the ground, so I left it off.

    Cool build, I dig the old PRS parts having been given new life. Shame this build got so few builds, but if you keep at it, with some luck, your work will become more known about. Cheers! \m/ P.S. - try the blend knob in conjunction with a master volume and one of Fender's tone control, that is notched in the middle and rolls off either bass or treble depending which way you turn it. Should be really versatile for endless clean tone possibilities!

    • @AndrewTrice
      @AndrewTrice 3 роки тому

      Thank you! and I have enough wood left over for a few more guitars too (full size ones)! I used a generic 35mm disc piezo I got off of Amazon. They were 10 for $10 (I think). I originally wired it up with a .22µF capacitor on the tone pot, which I think was too strong, so I swapped it out with a .01µF cap, and it works great.

    Great build and guitar.... You skipped over install of electronics -- can you provide more details on piezo, preamp and how you handled this?

    • @AndrewTrice
      @AndrewTrice 3 роки тому

      It has a generic under-saddle piezo that I hooked up with a Schatten Micro Pre preamp. I only wired it up with a volume pot, but if I were to do it again, I'd take the extra 15 mins and add a tone pot too. Details here: www.schattendesign.com/PDF/MicroPre.pdf. It does impedance matching to match the piezo output to a "normal" electric guitar signal.

    • @AndrewTrice
      @AndrewTrice 3 роки тому

      Thanks! This neck pickup is where i intended to put it. If I were to do it again, I'd probably move the neck pickup about 1- 1.5 centimeters closer to the neck. This configuration sounds incredible as-is, but I think if I were to move it, it would have a slightly greater range of tones.

    • @timhallas4275
      @timhallas4275 3 роки тому

      @@AndrewTrice There is a reason that most guitar designers put the pickups as close to the end of the fingerboard and as close to the bridge as reasonably possible. To get the widest range of difference between them. If you want a tone somewhat between those extremes, you either wire it so they can be played together, or install a middle pickup.
